Upland Label adheres to the motto, “The customer before everything else,” and it shows. This Tennessee-based label converter operates under the EverGreene Manufacturing umbrella, which has helped drive company growth. That growth has led to a milestone celebration, as Upland Label prepares for its 35th anniversary. Serving the customer has played a big role.

“Upland is driven by values of being eager, knowledgeable, and grounded,” explains Alexandra Wright, strategic marketing manager, EverGreene Manufacturing. “These principles define the way the team responds quickly, brings deep expertise, and remains approachable. The company balances full service and advanced technology with a collaborative, customer-first spirit. Clients know they will always reach a responsive partner who understands their needs.”

Upland Label – then Dixie Labels – was established in 1991 in Chattanooga, TN, USA. The business quickly grew its reputation for high quality, service, and consistency. The company reached a milestone in 2014, when it achieved GMI Certification, validating consistent, repeatable print quality. Its success made it attractive to EverGreene Manufacturing. And in 2019, EverGreene Manufacturing acquired the company, which expanded its durable and screen printed offerings and bolstered both digital and flexographic printing capabilities with new advanced equipment.

In 2022, EverGreene Manufacturing rebranded the converter to Upland Label, reaffirming its commitment to exceptional service. Richard McGinnis, plant manager, is crucial to the company’s growth, as he oversees the 32,700 square-foot plant floor in Chattanooga.

“Most recently, in July 2025, Upland unveiled bold new exterior signage at its Chattanooga headquarters, designed by sister company Fravert, to celebrate nearly 35 years of history and signal the next chapter ahead,” says McGinnis.

Upland Label operates successfully alongside a host of other EverGreene Manufacturing portfolio companies. The network includes ALG Labels + Graphics, MidSouth Tag & Label, and
Fravert Solutions.

The partnership has been a fruitful one, as Upland Label has invested in a wide range of cutting-edge machinery. Starting in 2024, Upland Label added a Nilpeter 8-color flexo press, CEI slitters with BST inspection, and an HP Indigo 6K digital press.

“The HP Indigo 6K and 6P digital presses deliver photo quality with microtext for security,” explains McGinnis. “Strategic relationships with press and inspection technology leaders such as Nilpeter, HP, CEI, and BST have been essential to scaling Upland’s precision and efficiency.

“We also have thermal and specialty capabilities,” McGinnis adds. “Our barcode, thermal, and security features include microtext, QR codes, and unique identifiers. Our applications include custom die shapes, specialty inks and coatings, flexible packaging, mass retail and order fulfillment, blanks, ribbons, and brand consulting.”

The Upland Label team is supported by the EverGreene Manufacturing leadership group, including second-generation family president John Ehrhardt, ensuring both local agility and broader organizational guidance.

Versatility is key for Upland Label, too. The company boasts more than 600 label material options, and over 24,500 different SKUs are handled on an annual basis. Upland Label prints 594 million labels yearly.

The company serves a diverse range of markets, including building materials and flooring, food and beverage, chemicals and lubricants, energy, wine and spirits, home goods, health and beauty, nutraceuticals and supplements, pet products, and industrial goods.

“From its beginnings as a regional label producer, Upland has evolved into a multi-industry partner equipped with leading-edge capabilities,” states McGinnis.

Most recently, Upland Label has unveiled an online client portal that further promotes enhanced customer service. The portal allows ordering, reordering, tracking, and artwork uploads with no minimum order requirements. This automation saves time and improves accuracy. Upland Label’s goal is to deliver hands-on support from art to shipping.

Sustainability is a core tenet for Upland Label, as well. According to Chris Baxley, production support manager, custom labeling is more than just creating a product – it’s about delivering a solution that works flawlessly while supporting environmental goals.

“We do our due diligence to test and vet each material and method we use, making sure it performs perfectly for the client’s needs while staying environmentally conscious,” says Baxley. “It’s all about finding that balance – delivering a reliable solution that aligns with our clients’ sustainability goals.  This hands-on approach often involves sourcing specialized materials and working closely with vendors to gather in-depth information. This collaborative effort ensures that every label is a perfect fit for the brand it represents.”

Upland Label has also implemented a composting program at its office and production facility to further its sustainability goals. This initiative reduces waste and supports eco-friendly practices, reflecting its dedication to protecting the environment.

“Composting is a small step with a big impact,” says Wright. “It’s one more way we’re giving back to our community and setting an example in the industry.”

With the backing of EverGreene Manufacturing and a diverse arsenal of printing capabilities, Upland Label anticipates a bright future – one that will include a 35-year anniversary celebration next year.

“Upland is preparing for its 35th anniversary in 2026 with refreshed branding, continued investment in advanced presses and automation, and expanded services for key industries,” states Wright, adding, “The company will continue enhancing customization, speed to market, and security features to meet growing customer demands.”
